Carbon Responsible are experts in carbon management.

With over a decade of experience helping clients chart a path toward net-zero, our guidance helps organisations navigate a complex and ever changing sustainability landscape.

Carbon Responsible was founded in 2012 to help the travel industry grapple with the emissions associated with holidays. Over the years, we’ve developed the world’s leading travel industry database, helping to guide industry reporting.

As emissions reporting has branched out into other sectors, and several reporting frameworks have cropped-up over the years, we have shifted our focus toward providing robust corporate and investment reporting. We provide data-driven solutions coupled with expert advisory. We support our clients and their investors to develop decarbonisation strategies that stand out in the market and stand up to inquiry from any regulatory body. We have experience aligning organizations to SECR, SFDR, TCFD, PRI, NZAMI, SBTi, ISO and many other.

The team at Carbon Responsible comprises a broad range of disciplines. We are zoologists, physicists, economists, and policy experts just to name a few. Above all though, we are problem solvers aligned around a key mission of leaving the planet better off than the way we found it.

Our products, you’ll notice, aren’t exactly like our competitors. And that’s for good reason. We want to be able to serve client needs today. And that means orienting our data-products toward existing and legacy applications our clients use, but also crafting our data base and data collection platforms to be agile and adaptive as the industry moves toward a SaaS model.

Carbon Responsible’s work drives operational efficiencies, solves regulatory compliance and simplifies your journey to net-zero.

  • Over 10 years of experience in emissions disclosure
  • Independent, transparent reporting (we have never brokered offsets)
  • Audit-level reporting valuable across multiple reporting frameworks

Nigel Greenhalgh

Programme Director

Nigel is a professionally qualified programme manager and director with over 35 years’ experience working for both clients and contractors on a wide variety of residential, commercial, industrial, water and telecommunications projects as well as rail, underground and light rail projects, both nationally and internationally.

His understanding of complex projects provides a strategic overview of the business case and set-up to ensure that the goals and requirements are developed and delivered, using the complete ‘Life Cycle’. Promoting an integrated project/delivery team, including the client / funders, as required, will help to ensure the correct capacity, skills, and competences. This requires a joint vision, as well as an agreed governance and communication structure.

Having worked on a wide variety of projects, in the private and public sectors, with developers, consultants, councils, and infrastructure companies, both in the UK and abroad, he understands the need to set up a simple but robust process and structure to ensure that the programme and milestone deadlines are achieved.

Nigel recognises the need for independent advice and monitoring to give the client confidence that the project is in line with projections, both programme and cost, and that the risks are fully understood and being managed transparently.

Erica Vilkauls

Retail Strategy Advisor

With more than 35 years experience from the sales floor for a number of years, to Director, COO and CEO roles Erica has enjoyed solving retail’s problems and knows how to exploit opportunities after detailed analysis. Fashion has been her passion throughout her career, but she also has experience in Home and Electricals, from sourcing, production, merchandising and supply chain.

Erica was trained at the Buton Group (Arcadia) and subsequently worked in blue chip corporates: House of Fraser, Mothercare and John Lewis in various management roles.
Erica specialises in turnaround, distressed and growing businesses at all levels from 500k to £400 million in turnover. At the end of the day, whatever the revenue, we are all just designing, producing and selling. But the source of supply is ever-changing, as are the selling channels.

Erica understands that emissions management is the next logical step in the evolution of fashion responsibility. Customer first, rather than product first, has been the latest change she is focused on. She recognises that good data, thorough transparent analysis of emissions is the only way for a business, be it retail or other, to begin to drive down their environmental impact.
